Affordable Prom Dresses

Finding an inexpensive or cheap prom or formal dress isn’t the ardious task that it once was. With talks of recessions and economic tribulations all over the media, most retailers recognize that they must drop their prices and stay competitive in order to bring in buyers. So searching for an affordable prom dress this year will probably be even more easier than in previous times.
For starters, there is no need to be ashamed about being on a budget when it comes to purchasing your prom dress for prom 2009. Just because a prom dress is cheap, that doesn’t mean that it has to LOOK cheap.
We’ve compiled just a few simple tips for finding an inexpensive prom dress:
1. Ask about Off-Season discounts: Retailers across the country are desperately trying to get rid of last seasons inventory. Use this fact to your advantage. Visit local bridal shops and specialty stores and NEGOTIATE a cheap price for your prom dress! Think of it this way, the worse they can do is say no, but at best – you’ll be able to get them to knock a few dollars off the cost of your gown. If they are unable to come down on the price for the gown, then ask about them reducing the price on prom accessories, prom shoes or your prom jewelry.
2. Check Ebay for Affordable Prom/Formal Dresses: EBay and other online auction sites are great ways to find really cheap prom and formal dresses. Be sure to have your parents permission before bidding on a dress though.
3. Post a wanted ad on Craigslist: Again, be sure to get your parents permission before doing this – but you can also try posting a “wanted” ad on Craigslist. In your ad you can list details such as your preferred prom dress color, your size, and the price you’re willing to pay etc. You can ask that people responding to your ad and include a recent picture of the prom dress. This method can be really successful, but it can also have it’s pitfalls. For example a person may post a picture of an item, but send you something totally different. That’s a risk we take when purchasing from an online auction or classified site. However you can circumvent this problem by making purchase (and return) stipulations very clear.
4. Search for Cheap Prom Dresses Online: A quick google search of “cheap prom dresses” will show you just how many retailers are out there wanting to sell you an afforadable formal gown. There are soooooo many options out there. We recently started a series on Affordable Prom Dresses, and we’ll be continuing that throughout the reast of Prom 2009 season.
So once again ladies – when searching for your inexpensive prom dress remember these things: You have options – never settle for the price on the tag, use your gift of gab to negotiate a cheaper price. If you are unable to get a lower price on the actual gown itself, negotiate the price on the accessories. If you aren’t getting what you want that way – go back to the internet, check Ebay, Craigslist and google!
