Don’t you just hate it how one part of your face is oily and shiny, while another is dry and flakey? It seems almost impossible to be able to clean both zones equally. Soap just makes the dry areas drier and lotions make the oily areas even greasier. So what’s a woman to do?

The problem may lie in the facial cleansing products that you are using. While they may work well for your T-zone, the chemicals in the product may actually be removing too much of the natural oils from the rest of your face. That’s the evil of manufactured skin care products. Anyway you look at it, it’s practically impossible to buy a completely natural skin care product made from pure organic ingredients. They have to add some chemicals in order to stabilize and preserve the product for a certain shelf life.

The good news is… the solution to your problem may lie right in your own kitchen cabinets.

Homemade natural skin care products don’t contain any additional chemical ingredients that could potentially irritate or harm your skin. The only prospective problem may lie in people who are allergic to certain food ingredients. This is easily overcome by substituting the offending food or ingredient with another similar ingredient. For example, if you are allergic to strawberries you could substitute a cucumber instead.

Not only do homemade skin care products cost a lot less to make, you can easily experiment with what works best for you without breaking the bank. Let’s face it, some of the products on the market cost a small fortune! I know it frustrates me to buy a product for $20 and find out it either doesn’t work or I can’t use it because it makes me break out. It’s much easier to head off to the kitchen, mix up a small sample batch of something and give it a try.

You will find that some recipes have to be mix up just prior to use as they don’t store well, but the majority of recipes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week allowing you to mix up a small batch to save yourself some time. The following recipes are great for people with combination/oily skin that tend to break out with acne and blackheads. Why not give these a try and see how they work for you?

Facial Cleanser For Normal to Oily Skin

2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp glycerin
1/2 cup distilled water

Mix the ingredients together until smooth. Pour into a jar and place the jar inside a double-boiler pot (do not use direct heat on the jar). Bring the water in the outer pot to a boil and heat the mixture until it is clear and has thickened. (If it thickens too much, add a bit more water). Remove from heat and let cool. This is a good all-over facial cleanser and should keep for 7 to 10 days.

Green Tea Skin Toner

1 teabag of green tea
1/2 cup boiling water

Let the tea bag steep for 2 to 3 minutes in the hot water. Remove the tea bag and let the water cool. Pour into an empty toner bottle or something similar with a small opening. Use with cotton pads like you would regular toner. If you wish to, you could also add a 3 or 4 drops of tea tree essential oil. Tea tree oil is a great antiseptic for pimples, while the oil helps to moisturize the skin.

Facial Scrub (Good for blackheads)

1 part baking soda
1 part water

Mix together into a paste. Gently scrub blackheads for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse off. Use once or twice a week.

Natural Scrub For Oily Skin

1 part sea salt
1 part lemon juice

Mix into a paste and gently scrub face for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse off. Interestingly, you would think this would be very drying to your skin, but I’ve found it actually leaves your skin feeling clean, refreshed, and soft. Use once a week to remove dead skin cells.

Deep Cleansing Mask

1/2 of a peeled, pureed cucumber
1 tbsp plain, natural yogurt

Mix ingredients together and apply to the face (avoid eye area). Let dry for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Use once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and refresh your skin.

As you can see, making up your own natural homemade skin care recipes can be quite simple and convenient with the right ingredients in the house. After all, if you have to run out to buy some cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc., why not just stock up on what you need to make your own facial skin care products instead? Apply Eyeliner Like A Professional

Many people think they already know how to apply eyeliner, and by all rights, they do a good job.  In actuality, there is a big difference between the way you might apply eyeliner and the way a professional make-up artist does.  Use these easy-to-follow steps and you can apply eyeliner like a professional make-up artist:

1.  Select your eyeliner

An eyeliner must be applied near the base of your eyelashes. As there are varying products in the market such as cake eyeliner, liquid liner and pencil eyeliner, it is important to try each type so that you will know which type will best accentuate your own natural beauty.  Also, to whatever type you prefer, practice the application so you can achieve a very fine line. Remember that it is not a pretty sight when you apply eyeliner in a very thick line. It will look harsh, at the same time loud, making your eyes as well as giving it a tired and heavy impression. Always bear in mind that a thin line is recommended – should you have any trouble applying it, a brush is helpful to smooth out the line and to blend it well.

Liquid eye liner.

Liquid eyeliners are recommended to be used and should only be used above the top of the eye lashes, whereas an eye shadow or an eye lining pencil is suggested to be used under the eyes lower lashes. This kind comes usually in a bottle with an application brush, almost similar to an ink.  This requires great precision during application, but can be perfected through constant practice. A note to remember is to always let the liquid dry before you open your eyes after application – if not, the liquid may smear the top of your eyes and give you a raccoon look.

Eye liner pencil

The easiest to use, works just like colored pencil.  As the tip of this liner is dry, it has a tendency of pulling your eyelids fragile tissues; stretching the eyelids when lining it could help a lot in achieving a smooth application.  A note to remember, you should always sharpen the pencil before every application to eliminate any bacteria that has accumulated at the tip.

Permanent eyeliner

This is can be created through cosmetic surgery.  This procedure is known as micro pigmentation, a technique that adds a defined line to the lid which with a handheld device used to puncture the skin several times a minute with a very thin needle that pushes color pigments to the position that is desired.

2.  Apply the eyeliner

- Begin at the inner corner of your eye.  Always be certain to use a light hand when applying your eyeliner, as the area around the eyes is very sensitive and delicate.

- Put on your eyeliner only after you have already applied an eye shadow.  Doing it before an eye shadow application would only cover the eyeliner.

- To achieve a dramatic and intense look, a kohl pencil with a color can be applied above as well as below the lashes, and then followed with black or very dark gray liquid eyeliner at the top. This will give the impression of dark eye lashes and will stay on for the whole day. A dark colored eye-liner will highlight the eyes form and outline as well as give them a deep look.

- While holding your head back facing the mirror, look down so that your eyelids will become tight making it easier in applying and controlling the liner. When necessary, smudge.

- The eyes will seem larger when you make a line with a pencil under your lower lashes – instead try a dark eye shadow applied with the help of a tiny makeup brush, to give an illusion of darker and fuller eye lashes. Below such line, you need to apply also a thin line with a lighter shade of eye shadow, preferably white, yellow or beige to brighten up your eye area.

- Pencil liners may be used on both above the top lashes as well as under the lower lashes. Liquid eye liners however, must only be applied on the top lid. Cake eyeliners are applied with water and may be put on to both the top and so too the bottom of the lid.

- If you have beautiful green eyes, try putting on a violet smoky pencil that will enhance your eyes, since basing from the color wheel, violet and green are opposite, so they will compliment each other.

- Refer to nature when you are in a process of deciding on a color. Green, beige and burnt orange are autumn colors.

Fragrances can often reflect our mood and personality. A certain scent on a good friend may smell quite differently on you as each fragrance reacts differently according to our own chemical makeup.

When testing a perfume in a store, be sure to wait about 10 minutes to allow the fragrance to react to your body chemistry before buying it. Smell it after the first application and then smell it again after waiting. This allow you to sample both the top and middle notes of the scent and give you a good sense of how the fragrance will linger throughout the day.

Be sure to limit how many fragrances you try at one time at the store – stick to just 3 or 4 at a time. Otherwise your olfactory senses may become overwhelmed and you may not be able to tell one perfume from the other!

If you are concerned about an allergic reaction, wait about an hour or so after sampling the perfume. If no reaction occurs by that time, it is probably safe to go ahead and splurge on that new perfume!

Always apply fragrances directly to your skin or hair, as some fragrances (especially parfums and eau de parfums which have a higher concentration of oils) may cause discoloration on certain fabrics. Never spray fragrances directly on silk – it will damage it!

If you like to spritz a bit on your clothing, be sure to test it first on hidden area such as an inner lining before spraying it all over yourself! This is especially true for delicate fabrics and “dry clean only” clothing.

I suggest changing your fragrance depending upon the season. In other words, go for lighter scents during the hotter weather and keep the stronger scents for the drier, cool weather. Heat intensifies the scent, so there is no need to douse yourself in a heavy scent during the summer. And if you are outdoors, be aware that bees, wasps, hornets, and other flying bugs are attracted to flowery fragrances (which is another good reason to stick to light, clean scents!)

Speaking of heat, if you want to keep that favorite perfume as fresh as the day you bought it, keep the bottle in a cool, dark place. Keep the bottle in it’s original box, if possible. You may even want to keep it in the fridge, so you can have a refreshingly cool spritz of your perfume before heading out for the day!

Many of us believe that the only way to feel good about ourselves is to have someone else constantly reaffirm to us that we are good people. The truth is, however, that the act of simply believing in ourselves can be enough to give us the necessary confidence to accomplish the impossible, achieve greatness, and pick ourselves up when we fall. Far too often we rely on others in our lives to provide us with a best friend’s kindness, a child’s love, or a spouse’s support. If we need love and support, the first place we should look is within ourselves.

Being able to love ourselves requires a lot of practice. Overcoming years of negative reinforcement from society is tough to do. However, once you can successfully say you can love yourself, nobody can take it away from you. We must learn to be our own best friend, our own cheerleaders. We need to provide ourselves with the love, kindness, and respect we all deserve and desire. Learning to love ourselves can be an ongoing process as we occasionally fall into the trap of believing we’re stupid, worthless, no good, etc.

Following are helpful ideas to use when you need inspiration to cheer yourself on.

First, when challenges arise, we must cheer or root for ourselves as we would for our loved ones if they were facing an obstacle. We wouldn’t want them to falter, so why would we allow the same to happen to ourselves? Cheering ourselves on with supportive thoughts and feelings will give us the continued strength we need to overcome many of life’s unknowns. By repeatedly telling ourselves that we are proud of who we are and what we can accomplish, we receive the encouragement needed to forge ahead in life without fear or reservation. Great things then become possible.

Another way to treat ourselves with love and kindness is to use positive self-talk, and use it often. Our minds must be constantly reinforced with the belief that we have what it takes to achieve what we desire. The resulting outcome will be an optimistic frame of mind that allows us to believe that truly anything is possible. Positive affirmations will produce the same result. Simply write down a statement, such as “I am a beautiful and lovable person.” Repeat your chosen positive affirmations daily until their truth is instilled into your consciousness. In other words, when we believe we are beautiful and lovable, we will be beautiful and lovable.

Unfortunately, being our own cheerleader also means we have to accept there will be times where we need a “pick me up.” Being there for ourselves to pick up the pieces when we’re down, or when it seems things are falling apart, is a courageous thing to do. We should not rely on others to put our lives back together for us. Rather, we must learn how to comfort ourselves and regain the positive outlook that will keep us going in the right direction. Most importantly, when feeling down, we need to take the time to reaffirm our value and our worth by the use of positive self-talk and positive affirmations.

Finally, being our own cheerleader has the distinct ability to provide us with a sense of leadership, of control over ourselves. Learning to fulfill our own needs allows us to avoid a destructive dependency on others for our feelings of worthiness. Self-worth is a belief that comes from within, and nobody can give that to us or take it away. We must remember that no matter what our circumstances are, we always deserve a pat on the back. Go ahead, give yourself the praise you deserve!

1. Smile… it will brighten your day and others around you will feel your energy.
2. Stretch… cats know that total body stretch does wonders. Follow their example and roll up slowly out of bed and stretch gently. (For more tips on stretching here is a great book: AM/ PM Stretch for Health.)
3. Exercise… at least 20 mins of any continuous activity will boost your energy level and reduce bad stressors. You don’t even to pay a membership fee. The key is continuous like a 20min walk or even mopping your floors. You will look and feel better.
4. Drink water. No other liquid is quite like it. Clear your system. 8 glasses are recommended daily. Your skin will radiate.
5. Rest… you need to take breaks during the day and sleep at night. Takes breaks away from work space to keep fresh and focused. Make sure you are getting sufficient sleep at night since your body regenerates while you are sleeping. If you are constantly letting your mind wonder make a conscious decision to put away thoughts till morning. It is amazing how good your subconscious mind listens to your conscious mind (so be careful what you tell yourself)

6. Do good. When you do something for someone else without expecting anything in return you benefit in ways unimaginable. (the key is don’t expect anything in return)

7. Exchange… the money you spend on junk food for food that will enrich your body and soul. Start with a simple plan of exchange. Because some think healthy foods cost more, find out your spending pattern by making 2 lists:

• . foods you like that are healthy that you normally don’t buy
• . foods you like that are “junk food” that you normally buy

calculate the cost of the 2nd list then use this amount to fund your “healthy” purchase. (of course you have to say bye-bye to the “junk food”)

8. “Stop and smell the roses”. Look for good in everything. This is a toughie because most of us are “trained” to look for faults, errors, shortcomings, defects, etc. Begin with yourself. List all your assets (not just physical). Then realize all the good in being you. Move on to other things around you. Work on this consciously every day till it becomes a habit. There is something good about everything and everyone. Once you realize this you will be finding good everywhere without even trying.

9. Learn… something new every day. Pick up a book. or search online. Learn to do something you have always wanted to do. You can even start for free by researching online. Search the subject and start stimulating and enriching your mind today.

10. Reward yourself. Set financial and personal goals and tag them with rewards for accomplishing them. (this one may be something special you have always wanted to do. and not necessarily a purchase.. But if you have done all the above maybe go ahead and splurge a little. You deserve it!

.Acne is an excessive toxic condition within your body, which the internal elimination organs are unable to eliminate. So your toxins are moved into your blood and excreted through your skin. Here are a few things to think about when trying to discover the potential cause or remedy to your acne.

• * Change your attitude

Go easy on the makeup! For many teen girls, misuse of makeup products is the #1 culprit in acne breakouts. If you feel comfortable doing so, lay-off the foundation between now and prom just to give your skin time to “breath”. However if you must wear makeup make sure to remove it every night before bed. Wearing makeup to bed is a sure way to see breakouts! Some cosmetics irritate the skin and can cause acne by plugging up your pores on your face.

Be very careful in the products you use to wash your face. Do not use deoderant or body soaps on your face, stick to natural soaps or products especially for your face like Clearasil, Neutrogena or Dove. When you use products are filled with chemicals that will irritate and worsen your acne condition. And don’t excessively scrub your face while you wash as this will dry your skin of the natural protective oil. Also, don’t keep touching your face since you spread or add bacteria to it.

You can pat your face with a clean hot face towel to bring circulation to your face and to help open and move the toxic material, in the pimple, to the surface. Do not scrub hard to burst a pimple but just scrub lightly to burst a pimple when it is ready to open.

Use the hot towel application only 2-3 times per week.

When a pimple is open do not continue to rub or scrub it. In fact do not pick or scratch an open pimple since this could create other sores or leave scars that are difficult to remove. Just washing your face with clean soap will keep your face free of toxic matter.

Keep in mind, small particles of  whatever you put on your skin will move into your skin and into your bloodstream.

Most commercial creams, lotions, and soaps are filled with all kinds of chemicals that are toxic to your body. By using them you are making your liver work harder.

During the day or at night avoid resting your cheeks or chin on your hand(s) or arm(s). This can irritate your face and cause acne to breakout. When you sleep, try to sleep on your back and not with your face or side of the face into your pillow.

For many teens, high school is a difficult journey in which their self esteem is tried and tested. Peers, cliques and clubs can make life miserable. With prom season upon us – this time is made even more difficult for some, the lack of confidence may even keep them from attending!

The way you feel about yourself, how you see yourself and believe others see you, is a key issue in how you live your life. It is the foundation upon which you build your successes and the shaky ground on which your failures occur. By developing your self-confidence and belief in your own innate abilities you will be enable to recognise and take advantage of more of the opportunities that are presented to you but until now have gone unnoticed. You will also have the strength and inner belief that is essential in overcoming the inevitable pitfalls and obstacles that life throws at you. By developing this aspect of your personality you can achieve, what may appear now to be, impossible goals. For each time you put your new found confidence to the test and discover that you are a winner, you will strengthen it immeasurably and move forward in your own personal development a greater speed than you can imagine. Your belief in yourself will grow with each new challenge until you begin to see challenges, not only through the eyes of a person who believes in themselves but also, as someone who knows they can achieve anything – because you begin to see yourself as a person who has the confidence in their abilities to find a way to do it!

Here are some points to follow that will help you develop a similar level of self-confidence:

As best you can, stop berating and judging yourself harshly. There are numerous people in the world who will jump at the chance to do that for you. Be gentle with yourself and recognise that your mistakes are merely learning opportunities. Keep in mind that your words have power. They direct your thinking. When you speak in a certain way you begin to formulate ideas and beliefs which are in harmony with the words you are using. These beliefs in turn have a major impact on the action you take and the way you conduct yourself throughout your life. So choose words that uplift you, encourage you and strengthen you and go easy on yourself when you make a mistake. Recognise what you have to learn from it and move on.
Seek out the company of people you want to emulate. Look for self-confident people to mirror. Watch the way the walk and how they talk. Put yourself in positive environments as much as you can. Your environment and the people around you dramatically affect your level of confidence whether you realise it or not. Immerse yourself in people who build you up but that are honest and forthright with you. These are the type of people who will show you where you can improve while also reinforcing that you can do it and that the job you have done thus far is great. They can help you work on your faults while praising you with each step forward you make. Negative people only pull you down and should be avoided. If someone tells you often enough that you can’t do something you will begin to believe them and thus form a negative belief about yourself. Such people are toxic and must be avoided at all costs.
Be a person who is true to their word. Take action when you vow to take action. Follow through on your plans even if it initially looks like there is no way forward. That doesn’t mean being inflexible. Of course there will be times when you need to compromise and alter your goals and plans but always stay true to your vision. I promise you another way will present itself. If you give up you will seriously damage your confidence! A key point to remember is that there is no such thing as failure – you only fail when you give up! If you keep on keeping on, trying different approaches and staying steadfast to your ideal, you will eventually succeed. The knock-on affect is that your confidence in yourself will grow and you will also have the added knowledge of what not to do. Failure is the greatest teacher but only if you learn from it and use it!
Feel the fear and do it anyway! If you stand up and face that thing that you are most afraid of and do it anyway very often the fear disappears. If it doesn’t the first it will the second, third or fourth. Doing this will prove to your subconscious mind that nothing bad did occur from taking that action. For example you will find that talking to that person didn’t make you stop breathing or giving a lecture didn’t make you die, or walking across the bridge wasn’t life-threatening etc.!

Keep a diary of all your achievements not matter how small and don‘t let others ridicule you for it. I know of a person who was terrified of balloons. Now to you or me this sounds ridiculous but to him it was as frightening as facing certain death. You know what your fear is! Many times in life fail to acknowledge the progress we are making simply because ‘we can’t see the forest for the trees’. We get caught up in the big picture and don’t see the smaller gains that are actually getting us closer to our goal. Think of a time when you met someone you hadn’t seen in years. Do you remember noticing how much they had changed? You could see it yet to their family, close friends and people who seen them everyday the changes would have been almost imperceptible! Take the time to write down every little gain you make. Soon you will be able to read back over it and really see just how far you have come. Write down the fears you faced, how you faced them and obstacles you overcame. Explain how you felt before and how you felt after. This will help keep you motivated in times of internal struggle and show you just how far you have come in your journey to more self confidence.
Finally when you go to bed at night let your mind think of all the achievements you had during the day and week and month. No matter how small these achievements may seem give yourself credit for all of them. Upon waking in the morning visualize yourself for 5 or 10 minutes beaming with joy and confidence as the day unfolds and you will literally set yourself up for a successful day and incredible life!

We’ve already discussed choosing the right foundation color for prom in another article – now it’s time to give you some insight on the popular technique known as airbrushing.  This technique used by makeup artists around the world provides a flawless and smooth application of your foundation. If you aren’t a professional, chances are you pretty high that you don’t have the tools at home to try this – but we wanted to discuss it anyways just to give you some options for the perfect prom make up!

Catherine Zeta Jones wears it. So does Jennifer Lopez. Why? Airbrush makeup creates a flawless face – almost as if you took your picture and ran it through Photoshop.

Here’s how it works. A tiny amount of specialized foundation makeup is mixed with a few drops of water, and then sprayed onto the face with a wand. The result is a sheer, yet full coverage. You end up wearing less foundation, but with a flawless finish. It even hides under eye circles and rosacea.

Tools for At-Home Airbrush Application:

• airbrush compressor
• airbrush wand (sometimes called a pen)
• hose (connects the wand and the compressor)
• makeup foundation
• bottled water

First time users can get this equipment in a kit. After that, all you will need is the foundation. Expect to pay from $120 to $600 or more as your initial investment. Once you’ve purchased your kit, the only further cost is foundation, which can be about $20. Some companies are making smaller compressors, which are easier for home use and for travel.

How to Apply:

• 1. Place a few drops of foundation into the designated cup, along with a few drops of water. (Each brand will have its own instructions telling you specifically how many drops of each to use.)
• 2. Hold the wand about 6 to 10 inches from your face, and spray the mixture in gentle circles over your face and neck. Never hold the wand in one place. Keep it moving. And don’t spray it into your eyes. Keep your eyes closed if you can.
• 3. Let it dry. If you want, you can apply a second coat. After that’s dry, you’re good to go. No need for finishing or setting powder.

What Kind of Foundation to Buy:

Airbrush makeup foundations come in two types: silicone-based and water-based. Many professionals recommend the silicone, saying that it creates a slightly more flawless look. You need to purchase dedicated airbrush makeup – you can’t use your regular foundation in these machines.

Cruelty-Free Companies:

The good news is that many airbrush companies make non-animal tested foundations. Dinair Airbrush Makeup, OCC, and Luminess are among many cruelty-free brands.

Blush and Eye Shadow:

You can buy airbrush-ready blush and eye shadow, although that may require the purchase of a special nozzle for your wand. But once your basic foundation is dry, there’s no problem using your regular powder blush and eye makeup.

Airbrush Advantages

Once airbrushed, you are good to go for up to 10 or 20 hours, with an average of around 16 hours. It won’t rub off on anything or disappear into your pores.

If you’re sharing the makeup – at a wedding, for example – the airbrush system is sanitary, since it never actually touches the skin.

Some of the kits and foundations can be used on legs, to conceal veins and discolorations. That means no panty-hose, ladies!

Airbrush Disadvantages

It’s expensive, especially at first.

Applying the makeup is time consuming and requires the equipment, a power supply, a water source, and enough space.

If you’re applying it on yourself and you’re alone, you’ve got to do at least parts of the application with your eyes closed. You don’t want to get the product in your eyes.

You can’t throw it into your purse like you can with mineral makeup or regular foundation.

If you use airbrush makeup a lot, you might consider some sort of face mask. No one has definitive information yet about how much of the product gets into your lungs.

Still, that ultra flawless, pore-less even look is a very appealing idea. Some women even say the makeup hides some of their wrinkles. If you want that look, airbrush makeup is certainly worth a try.

* Dark or light? There are many ways in which to apply your eye shadow. Most will apply a darker shade of eye shadow to the area right above the eyelashes. My personal feeling is that it is much easier to spot a true cooled toned girl. Oftentimes you will see the blue or blue green skin tones thru very thin skin on a cool toned face. Think Silver, Blue and very rosey blue pinks. You will also want to look for veins near the skins service that are that same blue or blue green skin tone. Now on to the Best…Neutral. Do you look great in Pure Beige? You lucky girl when it comes to color cosmetics and clothes! You will only need to be careful to purchase a truly beige foundation.

In the world of foundations you will find that most seem to have a bit of yellow which will work on the bulk of the population. Breathalyzers on Prom Night: How Alcohol Testing in High Schools is Becoming the Norm

Students going to high school prom this year will notice there is more than balloons and confetti greeting them at the door. Some high schools will have teachers standing ready to take breathalyzers as well as tickets to screen students for alcohol consumption. It made seem like an intrusive way to start your evening with lipstick covered lips onto a breathalyzer reader, but teachers and parents agree it can save lives.

According to sources, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 20. It is estimated that one teen is killed every hour in the United States because of teenage drunk driving. So communities, such as the Pequannock Township High School in New Jersey are doing something about it and demanding random alcohol testing as part of the school program.

Where students feel attacked is how the school system is going about testing. The (EtG), ethyl glucuronide urine test the school is using to test students can prove up to 90 days when the last time the student consumed alcohol. So, if a student was at a party over the weekend, they could be tested on Monday and the results would show if they have consumed alcohol or not. In more recent news, EtG alcohol testing has been developed for  hair alcohol testing  where a sample of scalp hair is collected from a student and sent to a laboratory where is it then tested for alcohol use. With hair alcohol testing, past alcohol abuse can be measured up to 12 months, depending on the length of the hair sample.

Other findings report that the American Civil Liberties Union says random urine alcohol testing is an invasion of privacy, while in 2002, the U.S. Supreme Court in Board of Education of Pottawatomie v. Earls, voted in favor to allow public schools to test students for drugs if they were participating in competitive sports or extra curricular activities. Not otherwise. Student privacy rights vary from state to state which can give greater protection over student’s rights compared to others.

As more research unfolds, newer methods of random alcohol screening could be enforced. Depending on the past police records of students, number of detentions or other behaviors in school could affect the degree of ramifications due to positive alcohol evidence in a student’s sample. As one researcher put it, a phone call home to parents could be the only punishment necessary to prevent under age alcohol consumption in the future.

Tips For A Flawless Tan For Your Prom

Take some time
Don’t apply self-tanner when you’re in a hurry. A rush job can cause streaks and spots. And definitely don’t apply the day of the prom; two or three days before is better.

Always exfoliate
Use a body scrub, loofah or plain-old washcloth to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and help self-tanner spread on more smoothly and last longer. Pay extra attention to rough areas like hands, wrists, elbows, knees, wrists, ankles and feet.

Defuzz first
Shaving gets skin even smoother than exfoliating; do it before applying self-tanner not after, which can remove some of your color.

Even it out
Rub hands together after putting tanner in your palms to spread the solution evenly in each hand.

Smooth on circular
Once self-tanner starts soaking into skin, use circular motions to spread it around; different directions help blend better than linear lines.

Prom is arguably one of the most important events of a teenager’s life. For teenage girls, it’s an event that ranks right up there with getting a driver’s license.  As a florist, I’ve helped hundreds of excited teenagers choose the right flowers to match their prom attire, so I know how important this event is in a young person’s life. It is always my pleasure to spend time finding out what kind of flowers they have in mind and which colors and styles will best match the dress and tuxedo. While I thoroughly enjoy the occasion, I understand that many of these young people are ordering flowers for the first time in their lives. They’re often nervous and uncertain of how to get exactly what they have in mind. Here are a few tips to make the process easier:
 
 • Order early. Prom occurs during peak wedding season and sometimes falls on Mother’s Day weekend. Wedding season and Mother’s Day are extremely busy times for florists. Many of the flowers that are popular for use in corsages and boutonnieres are also popular in arrangements for both weddings and Mother’s day. Therefore, you should place your prom flower order at least two weeks before the event. This will allow your florist the time to make certain he or she has the proper quantities of the high-demand flowers on hand.
 
 • Let your date know which flowers you like, or go together to order your flowers. If you’ve been dreaming of a particular look for your corsage or boutonniere and you know what kind of flowers you want in it, it’s perfectly okay to let your date know that. In fact, many couples make the trip to the florist together and order matching corsages and boutonnieres, which has become a popular trend. If you’re not able to go together to order your flowers, you may want to give your date a picture of the kind of flowers you want.
 
 • Consider your date’s attire when ordering. This tip is especially important for young men ordering corsages. Obviously if the young lady is wearing a strapless gown, a pin-on corsage may not be the best choice. Two very popular styles of prom flowers are wrist corsages and hand-held nosegays. Remember, your florist is a professional and will be happy to take the time you need to help you pick the perfect prom flowers.

Perfect Prom Shoes – Simple Tips On How To Find Them

You’ve spent countless hours searching for the perfect prom dress, and finally found it. Now you need to find the perfect shoe to go with your dress. But it doesn’t have to be hard! All you need to know is a few fashion tricks, and the perfect prom shoe will be yours.
 
 The most important thing to keep in mind is comfort. It doesn’t matter how amazing and fantastic the shoe that you pick is – if you are unable to walk by the end of the night, it was the wrong one! How can you look at your best if your feet feel like they are about to fall off?
 
 High heels are a common style of shoe, and for good reason – they make your legs look longer and slimmer and force you to keep good posture. But you don’t need to go ridiculous with the heel height. Two-inch heels are more than enough to give the desired effect while saving your poor feet.
 
 If you are used to them, strapped dress sandals are quite popular and can be worn with most dresses. But they can be a pain to wear – you may find it more comfortable to choose a dress shoe with an enclosed toe. If you get an enclosed toe, make sure they have a soft, cushioned upper lining (leather is preferable).
 
 Another option for shoes that are extremely comfortable to wear are ballet shoes. Unfortunately they are only suitable with full skirts (they just don’t look right with tight fitted dresses).
 
 It probably doesn’t need to be said, but do ensure that you pick shoes that are the correct size for you. Shoes that are too big or too small will never feel comfortable, and a shoe that is too big could leave you with blisters or even come off at an embarrassing moment!
 
 Once you have decided on your shoes for the prom, make sure you wear them in before the night. The easiest way to do this is to wear them around the house for an hour or so each day for a week. If you aren’t used to the style of shoe you bought, this also gives you a chance to become used to them.
 
 One final tip; it can be difficult to find a colour that matches exactly, so you will have two options. You can try to find a complementary colour (for example, black to go with a dark coloured dress), or if the shoe is the right type you can dye it to match.
 
 If you decide to dye your shoes, remember that dyed items look different indoors compared to outdoors. For example, shoes dyed grey may take on a purple tone outside. There is nothing that can be done to stop this, so be sure to tell your dyer if the event is indoor or outdoor.

After twelve years of school, not to mention pre-school and kindergarten, the time for your child’s senior prom has finally arrived! 
 
Your child has waited with great anticipation for this date. And why not? After so many years of attending classes they will soon take their first step into adulthood when they step off the stage after receiving their high school diploma. 
 
But before that day is the most anticipated prom of all. Every year since middle school they have heard of the fantasy of the senior prom. Days have been spent buying just the right attire for this very formal occasion. The transportation should be as special as the night.
 
Young and inexperienced drivers tend to be less cautious than older, seasoned drivers. This fact, combined with the joy and exuberance of the evening, could have serious consequences. 
 
Since most young people prefer to go places in groups perhaps the parents could split the cost of the rental. It could be that each person attending could raise the needed funds for themselves. However you choose to pay for this you know that this is the safest way for your child to travel.
 
There are a few things that a parent should do well in advance of the prom. Contact the limo services in your area and get quotes from them. Ask about the types of vehicles they have in their fleet. Go to their site and personally inspect the vehicle. 
 
Make your reservations early to ensure the availability of the type of vehicle that you want. Early reservations also assure that a limousine is available for that date and time. Advise the limo service that their passengers will be underage and that all alcoholic beverages should be removed and replaced with water, fruit juices, or colas. They may also provide gaming devices, CD and DVD players. 
 
Most of these types of options are usually standard in the limousines, but it may be a good idea to check with them. Provide them with a list of all addresses they will need to go to. Unless rented for the entire evening, there is usually a per mile charge. Make sure that you understand that any unexpected side trips may add to the  over-all cost. If you do not want any additional mileage charged to you it would be wise to instruct the limo service that the itinerary be followed as agreed upon. 
 
Discuss this with your child before hand. You should also understand that charges may apply if the limo is left sitting on the parking lot rather than dropping them off and returning later to pick them up. Get a contact number in the event of a problem. Be sure to get everything in writing.
 
As a parent you have enough to worry about. Transportation for the prom need not be one of them. You can relax knowing that your child is having the time of their life with a trained professional behind the wheel.

1. Do set a budget for prom and stick to it. Between the clothes, limo and all the extras that go along with prom, you can easily spend a small fortune. Make plans ahead of time. Get friends to go in on costs. Shop around ahead of time to get the best deals. You don’t need to spend a huge amount of money for one night when you have the rest of your life ahead of you.

2. Do use a prom check list to make sure you are prepared. Being organized and prepared will reduce stress and worry. You will able to enjoy everything about prom.

3. Do brainstorm with your friends to get ideas for things to do before and after prom. Another good way is to research the internet for prom ideas and fun things to do.

4. Do talk to your parents before hand to make sure there are no surprises for either of you on prom night. Let your parents know what your plans are and set check in times so they know you are alright. It is a good idea to give your parents an itinerary so they know exactly where you are all night and/or weekend, if you have other events planned. You don’t want to lose their trust and respect because of the events of one night so be honest.

5. Do make sure you have plenty of rest the night before prom. You will use a lot of energy getting ready and you want to make sure you are not so tired that you can’t enjoy it. If possible, try to sneak in a nap during the day of prom.

6. Don’t go to prom with someone you don’t like. Choose your date wisely so you feel comfortable and will have a good time. Not having the right date is the top reason for not having a good time at prom.

7. Do be prepared for emergencies. Take extra money along, take a camera with you to capture pictures, bring your cell phone and take care of your belongings. You might want to include an emergency repair kit for anything that may come apart.

8. Do enjoy the dance. Don’t just show up, take pictures and then leave. Participate and enjoy your friends. Prom is a big party so have fun! You are making a memory that will last a lifetime.

9. Don’t expect prom to be anything other than it is, a night with friends. You will probably hang out with the same people and talk about the same things. It is not the start of new social life. It is just like any other dance or party but with a dressed up formal theme. Don’t set you self up for disappointment when it is over.

10. Don’t do anything you will regret later. Don’t use prom night as a reason to do something you know is wrong. Drinking and sex is not something that will make prom night more fun. Keep it safe so your night to remember does not become a night that you want to forget

So your big day is finally here. This is your chance to dress to impress your date, your friends and your classmates. So, don’t blow it! These pictures will haunt you to your grave. Use these ten tips to help you attain a look on prom night that you will be proud of for years to come.

1) Let your personality shine!   Just because you have to dress in a tux doesn’t mean it must be the traditional, boring penguin suit. Dress up your tux with accessories that reflect your personal style. Don’t be afraid to set the trend! Try a unique tux shirt and adorn it with a cool-looking vest and tie. For the quintessential “Always one in the crowd” personality, a top hat, gloves and cane will do the trick.

2) Show your true colors!   Unlike many formal affairs, prom night is a festive event at which you can exhibit your flair by wearing interesting colors in your tie, vest or cumberbun. Remember…If you really want to score big with your date, coordinate your accessories with the color of her dress.  What woman could resist a man who thinks of her?

3) Sweet old memories.   Don’t forget, these photos will last a lifetime. The wrong outfit could cause years of embarrassment. So don’t choose something silly, tacky or over-the-top just to get a laugh out of your friends. Trust me, your mother will have this picture on the mantel for years to come.

4) The fitting image!   The tux must fit properly. In a nutshell: Too big and it looks like you are wearing your dad’s clothes; too tight, and it looks like it shrank while you were wearing it. The tuxedo should fit comfortably without pulling, puckering, sagging or drooping.

5) Accessories add the finishing touch.   Finish off  the look of your tuxedo with the right accessories, which include a vest or cummerbund, tie or bow tie, tuxedo shirt, tuxedo shoes, pocket square, cufflinks and studs and the right hosiery.

6) The “do.”   A great haircut can make the look. It does you no good to get all dressed up if your hair is a mess. The week before the big day, get your hair cut and then play around with it to make sure you get the look you want for the prom.

7) When a little bling is required.   Tuxedo shirts require cufflinks and studs. Here is where you can flaunt your personal taste, by choosing from simple gold knots to gorgeous inlays. You don’t have to spend a fortune. Unless the set is under a jeweler’s loupe, costume cufflinks and studs will achieve the same look.

Remember what Mama said!   Make sure that you have your tux pressed, clean and ready to go on prom night. Don’t leave it crumpled on your closet floor or the back seat of your car. Wrinkles, spots and creases will ruin your look.

9) To “tie” for.   The four-in hand tie is a great look, but you may need some practice to get the perfect knot. A week before, have Dad or a friend show you how, so you don’t have last-minute stress. Real bow-ties can be tricky. We suggest a pre-tie to look great with less stress.

10) Remember Fred Astaire? Your tuxedo will require tuxedo shoes. These are not the same as your everyday dress shoes. They are shiny patent leather. To ward off prom night blisters, wear them a little a few days before to get used to them and break them in.

State List of where you can donate your prom dress

Here are some of the things you should organize beforehand so you don’t accidentally turn one of the greatest nights of your life into a disaster.

Check opening hours – make sure you know when shops, etc that you will have to visit on the day are open. More than one girl has gone to pick up her dress on the day of the prom, only to find that the shop doesn’t open on a Saturday!

Research photographs – make sure you get a price list from the school before the night of the prom, so you know how much photos at the prom will cost (you can easily spend between $30 and $130 – even more). Check with the photographer before the night to find out what payment options are available – many will accept checks or credit cards, which is much safer than carrying cash.

Eat! – it seems like such a simple thing, but remember to eat a good breakfast and lunch on the day of the prom. You may be rushing around getting things ready, or feel like you can’t eat, but you will need all the energy you can get for the big night!

Make a record – when making your appointments (hair, nails, make-up, restaurant, limousine, etc) be sure to make a note of the date and time of your call, and who you spoke to. Make sure you ring to confirm your appointments 2-3 weeks before the prom, just to be sure that there are no problems.

Prepare for your hair appointment – it may seem obvious, but it is easy to forget. Remember to wear a button down shirt when you have your hair done.

A vintage prom dress is one that is a dress from the 1940, 1950 or 1960. The styles from these decades are very popular in formal gowns and help you create a really unique look for your prom night. During the 1960 shorter dresses were the style, but there are some floor length ball gowns from that era that was made with stretchy fabric that will enhance your perfect figure. If you are looking for something a little later, such as in the 1970 and 1980, these are easier to find. You may even find something in your mother or grandmother closet that will look perfect on you and save you money in the process.
