We’ve talked about pink prom gowns and pink formal gowns – today we want to highlight the elegance and allure of red formal wear! Red, the color of blood and of fire, is associated with passion,strength, desire and love. This is an intense color. Wearing red makes you stand out from the crowd. We’ve talked a lot about the various types of Prom Themes, and in searching for information on Quince Themes and Sweet 16 Themes we came across a great article that we wanted to share with our members!

So, there’s a recession on. But it’s hard to marshal that bit of info when your teen comes to you with her puppy-dog eyes and a reminder that her sweet 16’s nearly here.

She wants to go Hollywood, she says — an extremely popular party theme. (Never mind those world-weary types who sniff that it’s been done. Hollywood theme sweet 16s will be over when the world gets tired of watching goddesses sashay down the red carpet on Oscar night in couture and borrowed jewels, which is to say, never.)

So, if you say yes, does this automatically mean you need to tap the 401(k) or downsize the BMW to a ‘94 hatchback? Absolutely not. You can pull off a party that thrills the diva near to your heart and never once have to turn to Top Ramen for dinner that month. Here’s how.

Food: Self-Cater, But Go Mini.

Parents worry that the Hollywood theme calls for uber-swanky food (should you break out the caviar?). But the truth is, it’s all in the presentation: stay small. If you can hire just one or two people for a few hours — or even coerce siblings — into passing hors d’oeuvres and drinks from trays, your guests will be tickled pink.

But go easy on yourself: hit up a wholesale club. Stock up on pizza and sausage rolls, mini quiche, meatballs — things you just heat up on trays. Also load up on tortillas, cream cheese and lunch meat: roll together, slice into rounds and secure with toothpicks, and you have a big crowd pleaser. (Don’t bother with too much raw broccoli.) Pour something sparkly and sweet into plastic champagne or martini glasses served from trays, and you’ve got happy teens.

Decorations: Bargain-Hunt Online.

The ace in the hole with these popular themes? You’ve got tons of props to choose from, and the price is right. Prom sites sell spectacular cardboard Hollywood sets for really reasonable prices. And once you’ve got a focal point, it doesn’t take much to fill out the edges. Gold and black balloons are brilliant for this theme: just get latex so they’ll last throughout the night. They’ll fill up the corners of your room, or make impressive centerpieces when tied into “bouquets.”

Then, when you shop around, everything from megaphones and clapboards to film reels and kitsch plastic Ocars can be found for under $6 each. That’s a pretty cheap way to dress up tables.

Scale: Don’t Pad the List.

An exclusive guest list not only cuts down on food and beverage costs, it allows you to style a more intimate party that’s easier on the bank account. Ask a hundred guys and gals, and you’ll pretty much need a dance hall … and a $100-an-hour DJ with a four-hour minimum.

But if it’s mainly her BFFs, you can fill the evening with a screening of 16 Candles and fun party games that will fuel the giggles for hours, and be every bit as memorable as the mega-party — if not more.

Fashion: Get Your Guests in on the Act.

Your party will automatically hit higher heights if your guests show up dressing the part. They’ll get to flaunt their coolest frocks and shoes; all you need to do is hand out inexpensive feather boas and oversized sunglasses to conjure up a VIP lounge. Be sure to have your digital camera charged and ready, and a photo printer if you’ve got one. Then, provide some clapboard-style photo frames for keepsakes. Your best-dressed guests can slide in their favorite head shots, and go home knowing their stylist hit the mark.

Quince Corte De Honor

The Corte of Honor is one of the beautiful Latino traditions of the Quinceanera celebration. The Quinceaneras Corte of Honor, celebrate her as she makes her passage from girlhood to womanhood supporting her hopes and dreams in her life.

Family members and close friends of the Quinceaneras family members are usually chosen to be in her Corte de Honor. They participate in a special waltz for the celebration.

The Quinceanera tradition has been for the Corte to consist of fourteen boys and fourteen girls, plus the Quinceanera and her escort for her celebration. Each couple represents a year of the Quinceaneras life.

Many Hispanic families in the United States prefer to have a half court. With 7 girls and 7 boys. Now each person represents one year of her life and the Quinceanera adds the fifteenth year. Families have the reduced number of participants in the Corte of Honor to be easier to work with. They have found the major benefits of the smaller court to be reduced costs and the challenge of organizing dance rehearsals,

Some families choose to have a Corte of only boys. The number of boys in the Corte can range from four to fourteen boys. The reason behind this idea is the all boy Corte of Honor allows the Quinceanera to be the only crowned princess at her own ball.

Some families choose to have the Corte de Honor, to be only girls. Many times each girl is escorted by her father. There is an unlimited amount of options for the Quinceanera and her family to choose from.

Of the other options where the Quinceanera is escorted by her honor escort or Dama de honor, or her parents might escort her in. Or the Quinceanera may choose to only have her father escort her in. There is no right way or wrong way for how the Corte de Honor should be. The final choice is for the Quinceanera and her parents to decide what the Corte of Honor should look like.

When choosing who you want to invite to be in your Corte de Honor it is very important for those you ask to commit to part of the Corte of Honor must do so willingly. It is a major a commitment for every one involved. The commitment involves much more than just time and money. The boys and girls who commit to be in the Corte must honor and respect everyone else in the Corte with good behavior and to be on time for rehearsals.

Things to consider before inviting someone to be a member of the Corte of Honor:

Before the Quinceanera and her family invite the boys and or girls to participate in the Corte de Honor, they should outline the amount of time and money that would be required for each one to fulfill the role in the Corte.

Other areas needed to addressed is: the number and location of each of the rehearsals, the length of time of the rehearsals, the projected cost of the dress and shoes for the Damas and the projected cost for renting a tuxedo or any other outfit for the Chamberlains.

It is very important to write out this information and hand out two copies to everyone you are inviting to be in your Corte. One copy is for the participant to keep for themselves and the other copy to be returned with the signed approval and permission for their son or daughter to participate in the Corte de Honor.

The Corte of Honor just like every other part of the Quinceanera celebration requires planning and commitment for the outcome to be what you want it to be. Therefore it is much better to inform everyone up front what is expected of them. Avoiding embarrassment for those involved or any awkward moments later on. It also keeps you and your family from having to find replacements at the last minute

Quince Mass & Ultima Muneca

Despite changing times, many families continue to encourage their young woman to attend the mass as a central part of her coming of age. In fact, the Misa de Acción de Gracis is a time for the quince girl to reaffirm her values and beliefs, especially as they regard her family, her community, and not least importantly her faith.

The Mass is also a time for the parish to recognize the young woman as an adult in the eyes of her parish.

The Quinceanera Catholic Mass Traditions

The Quinceanera girl comes to her Misa de Accion de Gracis bearing her ultima muneca, or “Last Doll.” This doll symbolizes the end of her childhood and the last toy she’ll have as a girl. In some traditions, she exchanges this for a bouquet of flowers to carry down the aisle to her mass.

Quince girls are accompanied to the Mass by their parents and sometimes a special set of godparents chosen especially for the occasion. While they are sometimes the godparents chosen at birth by her parents, they can also ben individuals the girl wants to include in her growing maturity.

The ceremony has all the parts of a normal Catholic Mass and also special observances. Parents and friends are invited to read important passages from the Bible. The priest says a few words about virtue and faith and blesses a rosary, Bible, and other gifts to be given to the girl at her fiesta later that evening.
There is also a “coronation ceremony” where the Quince girl’s mother or godmother places a tiara on her head. This is a tribute to an ancient custom where the Quince girl was established as an official princess within her family and a young woman in her community. At the end of the service the Quince girl may leave the bouquet of flowers on the church altar as an offering of faith.

Many parishes now hold one single Misa for all their Quince girls in a given time, usually once a month. You should check with your local rectory to see if special private masses are available.

Other Faiths, Other Traditions

Historically Latino families have been almost exclusively Catholic, though many in the United States have begun accepting other faiths and denominations. There are no long-standing traditions regarding the Quinceanera celebration in other countries, but an expression of faith and devotion is still possible.
Some Quinceanera girls have chosen to hold special prayer ceremonies that allow her the chance to give thanks and praise in the company of family and friends. Others choose to spend a few moments with their parents in quiet prayer before the fiesta
