When trying to decide on the perfect prom dress, sometimes the best place to start is with the theme of your look. We’ve already done a Marilyn Monroe inspired prom theme, as well as a goddess prom theme and Jennifer Lopez theme prom ensemble. We wanted to together something that was truly unique with todays installment of an Asian inspired prom theme.

A chenogasm is a body hugging one piece Chinese dress, it’s also known as a qipao – or in English, a Mandarin gown. Chenogasm can be very elegant – perfect for formal occassions, or they can be more casual, perfect for work. We found a beautiful chenogasm that would be the perfect dress for an asian inspired prom theme.  Available at GoodOrient.com, this dress is made of a fine brocade with a wave pattern. It is knee length, backless and sleeveless with a mandarin collar and butterfly collar, two side slits and an invisible zipper in the back.

There are some more at home options for hair removal that you should consider. You will find these to provide you with a good quality finish. To choose, look at your conditions as well as your preferences.

Waxing: A Small Pain Goes A Long Way

Waxing is an effective method of hair removal that will last several weeks. You can purchase at home kits to help you to do it. You’ll apply a thin coating of wax, allow it to dry and then rip it away. Yes, it hurts a bit but that is only going to last a second. And, you’ll be able to take advantage of the hair free beauty for a while afterwards.

Bleaching: Hide It

While you will not be actually removing hair, you will be able to hide it carefully. Bleaching is a chemical reaction which will remove the color from the hair allowing it to blend in with your skin. You can purchase bleaching products for the hair above your lip or in other areas as well. Make sure to follow the directions of the product that you use. It is also important to note that tanned skin can cause bleached hair to stand out.

Abrasives: A Little Elbow Grease

If you have fine hair, then abrasives can be the right method for you to remove hair. You will use an abrasive stone, pumice mostly. By rubbing the stone to the skin in a circular motion, you will lightly remove the hair without damaging your skin. Although you’ll see some redness afterwards, it will likely go away quickly. And, the results of abrasives will last up to three weeks.

Electrolysis: The Home Version

[ad#72890]

There are several home electrolysis products that you can purchase. Careful purchasing can lead to the best results. While these products promise permanent hair removal, they are hard to use and do not always provide this. They are not as effective as professional services, but far less costly. You’ll want a blunt needed version. This will get placed inside the follicle. Products called Electric Tweezers do not work nearly as well. You’ll need to make sure that the hair is in a growing cycle and follow the directions provided carefully. A small area of at a time should be attempted. It will take you a long while and it will not be as pain free as you may think.

You can successfully remove unwanted hair from your body from home.  If you have thought about products that are overly expensive, laser treatments as well as unsightly treatments, then you may not need to.  There are many at home remedies that actually can help you.

Tips For Shaving

For Men:  One of the best places to shave is the shower.  The goal is to soften the skin which will help the hair to stand up enough for you to get a close shave.  You can also take full advantage of the many products available including gels and creams.  To help, make sure that you use a good quality razor and that you keep it clean and dry between uses.  This will help you to keep cuts to a minimum.  Afterwards, rinse with cold water and if you like use an after shave.

For The Ladies:  Just like the men, there are many things that you can do to improve the quality of your shave.  For example, if you hold the razor at the right angle you will get a closer shave.  Softening the skin with warm water, lotions or shaving gels can also help.  If you would like to cut the costs, use conditioner instead of these creams.  It can do the same job for much less of the cost.  You can shave any area of the body, with most women shaving their legs and underarms about twice per week or more depending on the need.

Tweezing:  Another Option

Using clean tweezers, you can easily pluck away stray hairs or shape the eyebrow.  You should not use them on nose hairs, though as it can cause an infection.  To do so, pull the hair in the same direction as it grows.  You have no need for creams as these can block pores.  In most cases, you can go about two weeks between tweezing sessions.

Depilatories:  Another Option

Here, you’ll want to make sure that you take the time to follow the directions provided on the containers of depilatories.  You need to insure you are not allergic and you need to insure that you pay close attention to the time frame.  If you leave these products on too long or use them when you should not, you are likely to suffer from a rash or burn.  You can use these about every other month to your desired results.  You’ll want to try to use them after you have taken a shower or bath so that the hair is soft and easily removed.

These options for at home hair removal are options that you can easily do and benefit from.  Take the time to learn a little bit more about them, purchase the products needed and get rid of unwanted hair.

Things to consider when Designing your own Prom Dress

Not including graduation, the senior prom may be the single most memorable event in a teenager high school career. For young women, this is doubly true. She’s spent all year, if not longer planning for this one big day. From the shoes on her feet to the accessories in her hair, every little detail must be extensively planned and thought out.

Choosing the perfect prom dress takes careful thought, time and patience. Many high school girls are bypassing department stores, saying no to bridal shops, and instead opt to design their own prom dress! Designing your own prom dress to have it custom made is an exciting experience, but there are a few things that you need to be sure to do during the design process.
Things to consider when designing your prom dress:
What exactly do I want?: The decision to design your own prom dress is usually made because you want to stand out from the crowd and your custom made dress is a unique reflection of your style. If you aren’t a fashion designer by trade, coming up with an idea is often times the hardest part. Grab some a stack of magazines and check out what Hollywood stars are wearing on the red carpet. Cut the images out and create a scrapbook of design ideas. After doing this, take a trip the local department store and bridal shops. While the whole purpose of designing your own prom dress is to avoid looking like you purchased it off the rack, it’s still a good idea to check out the competition, see what fabrics are in, and get ideas.
What style of dress will look best on me?: This is an important question to answer during the dress designing process. Even if you were not designing your own prom gown, you still want to make sure the cut, length, and shape of the dress is flattering to your body. If you are top heavy, you probably do not want to design a prom dress that is very low cut. Besides the fact that it isn’t very classy, trying to adjust your dress all evening will make you very uncomfortable. If you are on the short side, a long floor length prom gown may or may not be the best option for you. A floor length gown may cause you to look even more short, so look to design a dress that will elongate your body. If you are plus size, designing your own prom gown may be the best option for you. But once again, make sure the style is fitting to your body type.
Where can I find someone to sew my custom designed prom dress?: So you’ve spent the weekend coming up with ideas, you now need the person who will actually sew the dress! It’s really best to leave the job of actually making the prom gown to a professional. If you are lucky, you may have a seamstress in your family who can do this for you – if not, you need to find someone. You can ask your friends or visit local alteration shops for references. After you’ve found your seamstress, you can go about the process of selecting the perfect print and fabric for your prom gown.
Which fabric should I select for my prom gown:? Now that you’ve found a seamstress it’s time to go fabric shopping. Consult with your seamstress first, it is important to ask if there are any limitations, restrictions are extra costs added to your total price based on what type of fabric you choose. For example, silk can be a very delicate and expensive fabric. Some seamstresses will charge a little more when a client is using silk because of this. When you’re at the fabric shop one thing you will need to remember is lighting and how a color or fabric will photograph. Bring your digital camera with you and take pictures of the various fabrics that you’re interested in. After you’ve done that, go back home and upload the digital picture to your computer. Do you still like the color? Does it look the same in photos? The fabric that appeared to be navy blue in the fabric store may actually look more like a Barney purple in your prom photos.
What about my prom date, what should he wear?: It’s so easy to forget about the guys during the prom dress designing process. But coordinating with your date is really important. Check with your seamstress to see if she’s able to design a vest, ascot, cummerbund or tie for your date. Many seamstresses will due this free of charge with the left over fabric from your gown.
This should be an exciting and stress free time in your life, so remember that while you’re going planning for your prom. Above everything else, having fun is the most important aspect of this special night.

Get that red carpet shine!

by Rose Smith,

Don’t you just hate it how one part of your face is oily and shiny, while another is dry and flakey? It seems almost impossible to be able to clean both zones equally. Soap just makes the dry areas drier and lotions make the oily areas even greasier. So what’s a woman to do?

The problem may lie in the facial cleansing products that you are using. While they may work well for your T-zone, the chemicals in the product may actually be removing too much of the natural oils from the rest of your face. That’s the evil of manufactured skin care products. Anyway you look at it, it’s practically impossible to buy a completely natural skin care product made from pure organic ingredients. They have to add some chemicals in order to stabilize and preserve the product for a certain shelf life.

The good news is… the solution to your problem may lie right in your own kitchen cabinets.

Homemade natural skin care products don’t contain any additional chemical ingredients that could potentially irritate or harm your skin. The only prospective problem may lie in people who are allergic to certain food ingredients. This is easily overcome by substituting the offending food or ingredient with another similar ingredient. For example, if you are allergic to strawberries you could substitute a cucumber instead.

Not only do homemade skin care products cost a lot less to make, you can easily experiment with what works best for you without breaking the bank. Let’s face it, some of the products on the market cost a small fortune! I know it frustrates me to buy a product for $20 and find out it either doesn’t work or I can’t use it because it makes me break out. It’s much easier to head off to the kitchen, mix up a small sample batch of something and give it a try.

You will find that some recipes have to be mix up just prior to use as they don’t store well, but the majority of recipes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week allowing you to mix up a small batch to save yourself some time. The following recipes are great for people with combination/oily skin that tend to break out with acne and blackheads. Why not give these a try and see how they work for you?

Facial Cleanser For Normal to Oily Skin

2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp glycerin
1/2 cup distilled water

Mix the ingredients together until smooth. Pour into a jar and place the jar inside a double-boiler pot (do not use direct heat on the jar). Bring the water in the outer pot to a boil and heat the mixture until it is clear and has thickened. (If it thickens too much, add a bit more water). Remove from heat and let cool. This is a good all-over facial cleanser and should keep for 7 to 10 days.

Green Tea Skin Toner

1 teabag of green tea
1/2 cup boiling water

Let the tea bag steep for 2 to 3 minutes in the hot water. Remove the tea bag and let the water cool. Pour into an empty toner bottle or something similar with a small opening. Use with cotton pads like you would regular toner. If you wish to, you could also add a 3 or 4 drops of tea tree essential oil. Tea tree oil is a great antiseptic for pimples, while the oil helps to moisturize the skin.

Facial Scrub (Good for blackheads)

1 part baking soda
1 part water

Mix together into a paste. Gently scrub blackheads for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse off. Use once or twice a week.

Natural Scrub For Oily Skin

1 part sea salt
1 part lemon juice

Mix into a paste and gently scrub face for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse off. Interestingly, you would think this would be very drying to your skin, but I’ve found it actually leaves your skin feeling clean, refreshed, and soft. Use once a week to remove dead skin cells.

Deep Cleansing Mask

1/2 of a peeled, pureed cucumber
1 tbsp plain, natural yogurt

Mix ingredients together and apply to the face (avoid eye area). Let dry for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Use once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and refresh your skin.

As you can see, making up your own natural homemade skin care recipes can be quite simple and convenient with the right ingredients in the house. After all, if you have to run out to buy some cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc., why not just stock up on what you need to make your own facial skin care products instead? At least you’ll know exactly what’s contained in each product. Just remember to throw away the old stuff after 7 days and make a fresh batch for the following week. Your skin will thank you for it.
